Fancy some candy – perhaps in the form of web clicks? Or rather likes? Click Candy by Vanessa Ban is definitely an art exhibition that relates. In a rather interesting manner too.
Vannesa Ban’s first solo exhibition in Singapore, this showcase is inspired by “clickbait”. A term to describe clicks generated from sexualised images of women as web content to attract and increase traffic to any given site.
In this series, Ban’s artwork presents an alternative to the conventional types of critique in the form of art on the subject of the over-consumption of underlining information and capital flows on the web. It represents what is left behind when the ‘clickbait’ is consumed. An envisage of an empty outline that leaves the viewer with discomfort – similar to the sticky residue of candy on your fingers.
The exhibition is on showcase from now to 5 Nov at Grey Projects. For more details, click here.
