Common Ground features many artists the gallery has worked with over the past five years. These include Alvin Ong, Belinda Fox, Chankerk, Dawn Ng, Dyn, Esmond Loh, Eugene Soh, Green Zeng, Jason Lim, Kumari Nahappan, Mike HJ Chang, Rajinder Singh, Ruben Pang, and Sookoon Ang.
Over the last five years, the gallery has exhibited over 100 artists, 70 percent of whom are from Singapore. As a result, many have been able to raise their profile internationally, thanks also to the gallery’s participation at key international art fairs. “A gallery is only as strong as the artists they represent and the support network surrounding it—that being our individual collectors, collecting institutions and friends. Chan Hampe Galleries has been fortunate to establish strong relationships contributing to its stability in the last five years,” says Director, Benjamin Hampe, who adds. “The Singapore visual art scene is still developing and one of the requests we keep hearing is a need for space to experiment and develop new work. Shophouse 5 allows us to help address that need beyond our gallery programme.”
In addition to hosting its own guest art programmes, Shophouse 5, located at 5 Lorong 24A Singapore 398529, will be made available for exhibitions by Chan Hampe Galleries and the Visual Arts Development Association (VADA).
Viewings at Shophouse 5 is by appointment at +65 6338 1962. The gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11am to 7pm, and closed Mondays and Public Holidays. Common Ground runs from 15 August to 13 September 2015 at both locations.
