Come 17 Mar to 1 Apr 2017, Zhuang Sheng Tao will present a solo exhibition of 34 of his selected Chinese Ink and Calligraphic paintings at iPRECIATION. The artworks are created by Zhuang between 1984 to 2010, a period marked by his significant development in artistic expression from one of tradition to that of the contemporary.
A synthesis of traditional and modern themes, the artworks feature a meeting of sweeping brush strokes and abstract characters, which is reminiscent of the aesthetics of modern Western art, yet retaining the fundamentals and symbolism of Chinese calligraphy.
The works reflect Zhuang’s roots in Chinese Ink painting and calligraphy and his desire to incorporate the free-spirited and expressive quality of the Western art he encountered during his travels to Europe and the USA in the 1980s. Although he is now based in Suzhou, China, he continues to devote his time and energy to his art. This exhibition is a rare and valuable opportunity for collectors, artists, and new audiences to immerse themselves in the poetic expressionism of Zhuang’s works.
