Showcasing on 24 September to 2 October, Goshen Art Gallery will present over 40 pieces of Artist Fan Shao Hua’s most iconic paintings in recent times.
Hand-held fans celebrate a long-withstanding history of almost 4000 years, dating back to ancient China. Designed originally to shelter the Emperor from the sun and sand, the fan was symbolic in daily rituals. Various artistic techniques were integrated – in producing a fan. This includes carving, weaving, knotting, calligraphy, painting, mounting, poker-work, jade article, lacquer work, and embroidery. In the passing of time, it became an icon of Chinese ideology and heritage; making the fan a distinctive ethnic characteristic of art.
Fan’s paintings uses the freehand expression style, giving the ancient art a new, visual experience while preserving the Chinese culture and heritage.
