In June, we conducted a video interview with Artist Melissa Tan here, who will be flying the flag for Singapore at the Singapore Biennale this year. Today, the Singapore Art Museum unveiled the festival’s title, “An Atlas of Mirrors” – which draws on the notion of navigation, and also on the history of migration and diversity found within East and South Asia.
62 artists, art collectives, and selected artworks were revealed – including 60 artworks out of which, 49 are commissioned. Touted as Asia’s most exciting contemporary art exhibition the artworks are categorised under nine sub-themes, and presented across seven venues in Singapore. Namely – the Singapore Art Museum and 8Q at SAM, Asian Civilisations Museum, de Suantio Gallery at SMU, National Museum of Singapore, Stamford Green, The Old Parliament House, and The Peranakan Museum.
The festival will run for 4 months from 28 October 2016 to 26 February 2017. Artists selected, are from 18 countries and territories in Southeast Asia, South Asia and East Asia.
