With the coming and going of the Chinese New Year period, it may be useful to pause, step back and reflect for the bright “Rooster” year ahead. If you are in the mood for something philosophical, dont miss the last days for Threads that Bind, an exhibition held at The German Centre by Indo-British Artist, Kavita Issar Batra.
Currently on show from now to 12 Feb, Kavita’s artworks are inspired by nature and explore the idea of memory, of remembering and being remembered.
Using natural elements such as dead leaves, twigs, seedpods and flowers – the artist shows how they leave their mark on the surfaces they fall on, much like with everyday life. Her works show the imprint each element, etched on the surface of the canvas long after the actual leaf may have blown away or disintegrated.
She uses these imprints to personify our innate desire to remain, even after our physical death – with people around us, their memories or through a legacy that we hope to leave to future generations.
