From now until mid September, Yavuz Gallery will be holding a solo exhibition by Myanmar installation artist Po Po. Called Out of Myth, Onto_Logical, 1982-1997, on show are various works created by the artist dating back to 1982.
This set of Po Po’s work, containing pieces that are provocative and bordering on playful, was created during a time when Myanmar faced tremendous international political isolation. Within this context, the artist was nevertheless able to inspire a generation of artists with his ideas and perspectives. In doing so, Po Po has earned the respect and admiration of many, not just within the Myanmar art community, but internationally. Apart from an earlier exhibition in Singapore, Po Po has shown in Gwangju, Fukuoka, and Berlin.
The exhibition is curated by Nathalie Johnston, an art researcher living in Yangon. Out of Myth, Onto_Logical has been open to the public since 1 August and will run until 13 September 2015. Yavuz Gallery is located at 9 Lock Road, #02-23, Gillman Barracks. Opening Hours are 11am to 7pm (Tue to Sat) and 1pm to 5pm (Sun). +65 6734 3262
