Currently on show at Pearl Lam Galleries, Singapore is an exhibition entitled Presence of Whiteness by Zhu Jinshi. Renowned for his distinctive works in abstract painting, the artist will present over 20 coloured paintings created between the year 2012 to 2016, at the newly opened Dempsey Hill gallery.
The works are described to be seen as a dialectic of colour as concept; in keeping with his “detached from colour” series of paintings – the colour here is transformed into rich bodily forms, traversing between whiteness and colour on a three-dimensional canvas space.
The exhibition extends to Pearl Lam’s Gillman Barrack space as well. The stand-alone features works that consist of his paintings, installations and texts that span a fifty-year period – delineating Zhu’s personal history of persistence, destruction, attachment and reflection.
