Come 25 Sept to 5 Nov 2016, Shinro Ohtake will present a solo exhibition at STPI. The artist, who is best known for his ongoing series of Scrapbooks which he first began in 1977 and has completed more than sixty such pieces to date.
His art practice encompasses a wide oeuvre of painting, sculpture, photography, large-scale assemblage pieces, experimental music and videos. Amongst his artworks – he is best known for his collage of scraps, discarded from urban culture that best defines his artistic character. Some of these works have over 700 pages and speak of various memories through the archeology and assemblage of objects.
His works have been shown in numerous public and private collections including the 2013 Venice Biennale, Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo; Benesse House, Naoshima; Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. In 2010, Ohtake completed a site-specific commission for Benesse Art Site Naoshima titled the Naoshima Bath.
