The Singapore Art Museum (SAM) recently announced the names of 12 artists, comprising established and emerging artists from across Asia, who have been invited to showcase their work for the Singapore Biennale 2016. Flying the flag for Singapore will be 27-year-old Melissa Tan who attempts to explore themes of geography, exploration and transience through her works of paper and metal. In this short clip filmed at her studio, the artist talks to intersection.sg about her artistic inspirations and objectives.
Prior to this project for the Singapore Biennale 2016, Melissa held a solo exhibition titled Arc of Uncertainties at Richard Koh Fine Art. She has also been involved in group exhibitions such as The Singapore Show: Future Proof, Singapore Art Museum at 8Q, CNEAI, Chatou, Ile des impressionists in Paris and Strarta Art Fair, Saatchi Gallery in London. She also participated in the National Art Council and Dena Foundation Artist Residency program (Paris, France) 2013.
