Artist-in-Residence at the NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore, Yan Jun, will be holding a studio session entitled Touring in living rooms on Wednesday 19 August, 6.30pm, at Block 37 Malan Road, Studio #01-02.
As a musician of electronic music who was always left feeling disappointed by sound system environments and venues in China, Yan decided to create nomadic sound environments of his own. For his studio session tomorrow, Yan will invite musicians, artists and people with or without any “talent” to join with to create a platform in which “music should sound on its social pedestal”.
Also taking place at the NTU CCA later in the week, is an exhibition tour led by Andrea Nanetti, Associate Professor at the School of Art, Design & Media, Nanyang Technological University. Entitled Fish Story, to be continued, Nanetti looks at the work of photographer and filmmaker Allan Sekula and explores how a scholar and an artist approach the subject of maritime heritage differently. He will talk about the misunderstandings and ideological biases of Sekula’s work, the people and the skills that constitute maritime labour, and the concept of “decline” in the age of the container. This tour will take place on Friday 21 August, at 7.30pm at Block 43 Malan Road.
