It’s been 19 years since Tan Chin Chin left Singapore to live and work in the USA with her family. Marking her first exhibition back here in Singapore after nearly two decades, Evolution at One East Asia is also the 49-year-old’s first exhibition since the birth of her son, and has been a work-in-progress built up over the last 11 years. At the show, visitors will be able to get a first-hand look at her latest series of work, titled Love and Grace, which had been in development from the time she had spent collecting and creating material while taking care of her young son. “Throughout my career, I have explored the confluence of culture and religion using textiles and paper within collage on varying surfaces. My interest is in the exploration of complexities surrounding our history within contemporary culture,” shares the artist. In addition to her collage of paper and fabric on canvas, Evolution will also reveal a new body of work, which sees her intricate drawings laser-cut onto aluminum. Evolution will run from October 8 to October 28 at One East Asia’s new space at #09-03, Thong Teck Building, 15 Scotts Road. Tel: 6737 1819.
